10:00 am – 4:00 pm. The Callaway GardensTM Archaeology Team will continue excavations at a historic house site near Callaway Garden'sTM Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center. In March 2008, the Team cleared and mapped the stone ruins from the 1800's dwelling and excavated a test pit. Our findings included a fragmented Coca Cola bottle on the collapsed stone chimney rubble. The bottle was manufactured between 1910 and 1919, a clue that the site was abandoned in the early decades of the twentieth century. In 2009, the Archaeology Team will have the opportunity to expand the excavations and gain hands on experience and knowledge of the local past. If you have ever want4ed to be an archaeologist for a day this will be an excellent opportunity. Participants must be at least 12 years old, should wear comfortable outdoor clothes, bring work gloves, and be able to walk short distances in the forest. Instructor: Dean Wood, a registered professional archaeologist with Southern Research,
Fee: $60.00 includes lunch
When you register, please let the Education Department know of any special food requirements.
