The Harris' hawk also is called the bay winged hawk and is found in the southwest deserts of the United States and throughout Mexico. This raptor is dark brown with chestnut patches on the legs and shoulders. When in flight, its white tipped tail can be seen. It is the most social of raptors, living in colonies and hunting together. It frequently preys on animals large enough to share with other hawks in its group. Harris' hawks prey upon mammals and other birds.
