Autumn Fest

Saturday, October 5, 2013 to Saturday, October 26, 2013

Saturdays in October, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Mr. Cason's Vegetable Garden

As harvest approaches, make your way to Mr. Cason's Vegetable Garden where you'll find seasonal, family-friendly activities fit for all ages! Each Saturday will offer a different selection of hands-on activities, such as scarecrow making, pumpkin painting, leaf pounding, scavenger hunts and hay bale mazes. Throughout AutumnFest, there also will be crafters and demonstrations by potters, woodturners, the Georgia Gourd Society and nationally-acclaimed plein air "in open air" painters throughout the Gardens. Plus, dulcimer players will make an appearance to serenade the crowd with sweet sounds of simple stringed instruments of days bygone.

Stunningly bright harvest colors of chrysanthemums, known as the “Queen of Autumn,” will steal the spotlight throughout Mr. Cason’s Vegetable Garden as well as the Sibley Horticultural Center (which also features a fun Collegiate Football Topiary Display). More than 10,000 garden, florist and cascade mums make Chrysanthemum Season at Callaway Gardens a “can’t miss” event! As you wind through the curvy roads of Callaway Gardens, fall foliage will turn from green to red, yellow, orange and maroon on the branches of sourwood, maple oak, hickory, dogwood and fothergilla trees all around you.

During your visit, be sure to stop by our 19th century-era Pioneer Log Cabin for a glimpse back to a time when life was, in many ways, much simpler – but also more difficult. There will be quilting demonstrations, corn dolls and other items on display reminiscent of the days when this two-bedroom log cabin was inhabited by families as large as 15!

Make plans now for the whole family to head to Callaway Gardens one (or every!) Saturday in October for this spectacular harvest festival!
