Celebrate Autumn!
Bring on the Bounty
Usher in autumn at Callaway Gardens where longleaf pines paint a constant green backdrop for seasonal splashes of orange, red and yellow throughout the woods of this west Georgia wonderland. Enjoy the flowering plants unique to the season and celebrate the crisp, cool days of fall with special activities at Callaway Gardens.
Fall ... a time for exploring and experiencing the delights of nature! There's nothing quite like immersing yourself in autumn's spectacular show of color as you traipse across the leaf and acorn-laden ground on Laurel Springs Trail. Looping through a hardwood forest and a mountain laurel thicket along the slope of Pine Mountain Ridge, the rustic trail takes you through a primarily oak and hickory forest.
Few plants are as woven into Callaway Gardens' history as the muscadine grape (Vitus rotundifolia). This fall-ripening native grape, with glistening thick skin and a slightly musky flavor, easily tolerates the South's hot, humid summer. Muscadines are enjoying new popularity because in addition to their anti-inflammatory properties, they are a source of antioxidants and dietary fiber. All this and they taster great, too!
Chrysanthemums, native to Asia, Russia, and the Mediterranean, are cherished for brilliant colors and long lasting flowers. Easy to grow, widely available in an array of vibrant colors, inexpensive and virtually pest free, Chrysanthemums are the highlight of Callaway Gardens' fall plantings. Experience the joy as you discover the beauty of chrysanthemums throughout the gardens where more than 10,000 mums welcome the season.
