She helped so many people discover their rolein taking care of the world around them that it is appropriate that the first stop for today's guests is the Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center. Virginia Hand Callaway (1900 - 1995), co-founder of Callaway Gardens, understood the delicate relationship between man and the natural world. Today, her legacy continues at the facility which bears her name.

Nestled in the woodlands on the edge of Mountain Creek Lake, the design of this unique 35,000-square-foot facility actually includes several facilities in one, all devoted to enhancing the harmony between man and earth.

A staffed information desk and interactive kiosks provide guests an overview of all there is to see and do in the Callaway Gardens' 13,000 acres. Inside an orientation theater, the film Time & the Gardens plays continuously, depicting the evolution of Callaway Gardens. The Center also houses an education wing, lecture hall, museum/exhibit hall, the Discovery Gift Shop, and Discovery Café. Areas for artwork and exhibits are available throughout the building. Outside, a transportation court provides guests with alternate means of getting around.

This spectacular facility was made possible through many donations from people interested in helping Callaway Gardens continue its efforts in conservation, preservation and environmental education.

The site of the $12 million Callaway Discovery Center allows an easy stroll to the John A. Sibley Horticultural Center, Cecil B. Day Butterfly CenterCallaway Brothers Azalea Bowl and Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel.

The beautiful structure and setting of the Callaway Discovery Center also make it the perfect place for weddings.
