The Gardens and Preserve lands at Callaway have recently been designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by the Audubon Society. This program is designed to identify and conserve habitats that are used by significant numbers or species of birds. Callaway has habitat unique to the area because of Pine Mountain Ridge running through the property. Migratory and nesting birds use this forested corridor extensively throughout the year.
