New Year’s Resolution for Every Golfer
New Year’s is a time for friends, family, reflection, and resolutions. All of us have goals we’d like to meet and traits we’d like to improve upon as 2019 gets underway, and that includes finding ways to improve our experiences on the golf course.
Here are a few New Year’s resolutions that are beneficial to every golfer.
Make a Night (or Two) Out of It
Callaway Resort & Gardens offers two of the best golf courses in Georgia—the Lake View and Mountain View courses. When looking at golf vacations near Atlanta, look no farther than Callaway Resort & Gardens. You can book an overnight stay in The Lodge and Spa, the Villas, or the Cottages, and enjoy a championship round of golf on both breathtaking courses.
The original Lake View Course features water on nine holes and wider, more generous fairways. Enjoy the scenic views as you do your best to keep your golf ball dry. Plus you won’t soon forget the signature par 3 No. 10, with its island tee and serpentine bridge. The Mountain View Course is a test for golfers of all skill levels, and it hosted the PGA Tour’s Buick Challenge from 1991-2002. Tighter fairways and large, towering pines combine to create a beautiful challenge, which is what golf was always meant to be. Some of the world’s best golfers have played the Mountain View Course, and so can you.
Take a Lesson
Maybe it was Will Smith’s title character in the 2000 movie The Legend of Bagger Vance who said it best, calling golf “a game that can’t be won, only played.” So why not resolve to play the game better? The Twin Oaks practice facility at Callaway Gardens is a 26-acre golf mecca where you can work out issues with all 14 clubs in your bag. You can straighten out your driver, dial in the distance on those mid-irons, work on those troublesome bunker shots, and become one with your putter.
If you need professional golf assistance, don’t worry. Callaway Gardens offers lessons to golfers of all skill levels. Our teaching professionals can give novices a solid foundation to enjoy the game, or help experienced golfers with the knowledge they need to shoot their best scores.
Learn the New Rules
Golf has evolved over the years, and so have the rules governing it. The United States Golf Association has instituted a number of rule changes in 2019, designed with common sense and improved pace-of-play in mind. Some of the changes include:
- No penalty for accidentally moving your ball or ball marker on the green. Just place the ball back in its original position before playing it.
- No penalty if a ball putted on the green hits an unattended flagstick. The flagstick no longer needs to be removed to putt the ball.
- Distance measuring devices, like laser rangefinders, are legal unless a local rule says otherwise.
These are just a few of the new rule changes designed to help make golf faster and more fun to play. Give them a try on your first round of 2019, and see how they benefit you.
