Ways to Stay Active Over the Holidays

The sights and sounds of another holiday season are coming. Get ready for roasting turkey, a roaring fireplace, twinkling lights, and Santa loading his sleigh for his annual trek from the North Pole. There are many things to do near Atlanta to stay active during the holiday season. How about a weekend getaway or a week’s stay at the beautiful Callaway Resort & Gardens? You can have a festive holiday trip that the whole family will enjoy.

Fantasy in Lights

From Nov. 15 through Jan. 4, see Fantasy in Lights, ranked by National Geographic as one of the top 10 light displays in the world. The display features 8 million lights, 15 scenes, and a Christmas Village. You can walk a 5-mile trail or ride a trolley through the forest illuminated with magnificent lights. The young kids will love it, and even the older children and adults will marvel at the intricate displays in the sky.

Santa Claus 10K Classic

If you’re a jogger, mark Dec. 1 on your calendar. The race winds through Fantasy in Lights. It begins and ends at Robin Lake Beach, where you can enjoy the Christmas Village festivities.

Tennis

Stay active during the holidays by playing tennis. You’ll find 10 lighted courts at the Gardens. Clinics and lessons are available daily. Get a membership and play often or hit the courts during your stay. There are clinics for all ages throughout the holidays.

Golf

Golfers can stay active over the holidays. Callaway Resort & Gardens features 2 18-hole golf courses. The Lake View Course features wider fairways and 9 water holes, including 5 holes along Mountain Creek Lake. The Mountain View Course, a PGA course, is more challenging. Towering pines line narrow fairways.

Biking Trails

Rent a bike for a day or half the day and explore the Gardens through some of the best bike trails in Georgia. The 10-mile paved path has several entry points, so you can choose how much biking is right for you and your family. Explore the 2,500 acres of the Gardens. Biking trails are open daily and are included with your admission to the Gardens.

Hiking on Trails

Nature Trails

Whether you’re a casual walker or an avid hiker, the Gardens offers trails with great views of nature. Walk the shaded Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Trail and see a waterfall, ponds, a stream, and a bridge overlooking Mountain Creek Lake. Hike along the edge of the water on the Mountain Creek Trail and see turtles, fishes, ducks, herons, and more.

Book your next vacation at Callaway Resort & Gardens today! The holiday season is a great time to enjoy the beautiful lights and stay active.
