7300 square feet – over 1000 panes of glass – world-famous artwork – state-of-the-art mechanical systems – and over 2000 stunning, tropical butterflies!
Every visit to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified Day Butterfly Center is a new experience. The plant palette constantly matures and changes, and the butterfly population, comprising more than 50 species, fluctuates in diversity and density. These changes are influenced by the amount of available sunshine, season of the year, temperature, and stability of the ecosystem. Visit in September to see the planet’s largest display of beautiful, iridescent Blue Morpho Butterflies during Blue Morpho Month.
If you are interested in learning more about butterflies, join us for Butterflies 101 every Monday thru Friday at 2pm. During the butterfly season, March through October, our experts offer Butterfly Gardening on Fridays, where you can tour our outdoor native butterfly garden and learn how to attract butterflies to your garden. Also, our experts offer a more in depth workshop, Gardening for Butterflies, where you can learn how to attract butterflies to your garden.
Whenever you decide to visit, be sure to head to the Day Butterfly Center Gift Shop to peruse unique gifts and purchase seeds to start your own butterfly garden.
