“Hapazome” is a term coined by textile artist India Flint, which loosely translates to 'leaf dying'. It's also referred to as leaf or flower pounding, for the simple reason that you hammer the plant materials onto the cloth. The late quilt artist, Bettye Kimbrell (1936-2016) shared about this traditional Cherokee form of art in the book written about her life, Out of Whole Cloth: The Life of Bettye Kimbrell, Joyce H. Cauthen (2013). In this workshop, participants will learn the proper techniques for leaf pounding and will create their own set of six (6) cloth napkins to take home and enjoy using fresh, seasonal flowers and leaves. Most importantly, participants will be able to return home and use the technique again and again to create their own self-created works of art. All materials will be provided. This workshop includes admission to Callaway Gardens, which is a $29.95 value.
