A Couples Getaway

A Couples Getaway. Slow Down Together.

Where the long weekend actually feels long.

There's a kind of long weekend that doesn't feel like one. The flight is delayed, the hotel is a 40-minute Uber from anything, and you spend half the trip on Slack. The other kind is the kind where you actually slow down. Where you forget what day it is on day two. That kind is harder to find than you'd think.

A Couples Getaway at Callaway Resort & Gardens is the second kind. The AAA Diamond-recognized Lodge & Spa sits on 2,500 acres of gardens, lake, and trails. Live music plays every weekend at Cason's Taproom. The Summer Spa Special takes 20 percent off all spa services on Mondays through August 27. One of the largest inland white sand beach is right there for a sunset walk. And nothing on the itinerary requires a boarding pass.

Summer is calling. Below is the guide to a couple’s weekend that works whether you're the adventure couple, the slow-down couple, or somewhere in between.

Who This Trip Is For

Couples celebrating an anniversary, a birthday, a promotion, or just the fact that it's been too long since the two of you went anywhere together. Couples reconnecting after a stretch of busy life. Kids in busy seasons, a stressful quarter, the kind of month where you don't talk about anything but logistics.

What Makes Callaway Different for Couples

Two things separate this from a generic resort weekend.

The range. Callaway Resort & Gardens is one of the rare places where you can build a weekend around adventure or stillness, and switch between them mid-trip. Want a Pink Jeep Tour through the gardens in the morning, kayaking Mountain Creek in the afternoon, and a candlelit dinner at Piedmont Dining Room? Available. Want sunrise yoga by Robin Lake, a couples massage, a long walk through the Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl, and an early dinner with live music? Also available. Same trip, different days.

The accolades. The Lodge & Spa is AAA Diamond-recognized and has been featured by Good Housekeeping. The Spa at Callaway runs a Summer Spa Special. 20 percent off all services on Mondays through August 27, 2026. Plan a Monday around it.

And one detail couples consistently call out is the Callaway Cruiser golf cart rental. It gets you between the Lodge, the beach, the gardens, and the courses without a car. It feels disproportionately romantic for what it is. You'll find yourselves taking the long way back from dinner.

Two Couples, Two Versions of the Same Trip

The Adventure Couple

For couples who don't sit still. Day one is a Pink Jeep tour for a guided look at the gardens you couldn't have planned yourself. 1.5 hours in an open-air Pink Jeep Wrangler, corners of the property most guests miss. Day two is a morning kayak on Mountain Creek and an afternoon at TreeTop Adventure, a high-ropes course that's actually fun for adults and includes ziplines. End the day with a sunset bike ride on the 10-mile Discovery Bike Trail. Dinner at Cason's Taproom on the patio with live music.

The under-rated move is to tee off together on the Lake View Course. It threads along Robin Lake, is forgiving enough for a casual round, and is scenic enough to make a non-golfer happy. Rent clubs at the Pro Shop. Walk it or take a cart. The lake on your right for the back nine is reason enough.

The Slow-Down Couple

For couples who want to remember what unstructured time feels like. Day one is arrival, a lake walk, and dinner. Day two starts with sunrise yoga overlooking Robin Lake. Then a late breakfast at Country Kitchen, a couples massage at the spa (Monday for the 20 percent off), and a picnic lunch delivered to the spa or to a shaded spot on the grounds. Wander the gardens with no agenda. Cason's Garden, the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel. Read a book on the porch. Pre-dinner cocktails at the Lake View Bar. Dinner at Piedmont Dining Room. Stargaze at the Lodge firepits.

You don't need an itinerary on the Slow-Down trip. That's the point.

The Camera-Roll Moments

The things that show up on the trip photos. The ones you'll keep looking at three years later.

  • Pink Jeep tour through the gardens. Open-air, your driver knows every corner. 1.5 hours, $50 per adult.
  • Sunset walk along Robin Lake. The white sand beach gets pink, the dock is the photo, the boathouse is the better photo.
  • Dinner outside under string lights at Cason's Taproom. Live music on weekends, firepits, the patio that everyone underestimates.
  • Couples massage in the spa's salt room. The Evening is Calling session is the longer treatment with a quiet room before and after.
  • Sunrise yoga by the lake. Early but worth it. Light, lake, quiet.
  • Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel at golden hour. The stained glass lights up. The most underrated photo on the property.

A Sample Three-Day Flow

One version of a great couple's weekend. Built around Pink Jeep tour times and live music at night. Adjust for whichever lane you're in.

Day One. Arrival, Settle, Toast.

 Afternoon

  • 3 p.m.  Pull in and head into the Gardens gate. Your overnight stay includes admission for every day, even your arrival day.
  • 4 p.m.  Check-in opens. The Lodge & Spa sits at the top of a slope overlooking Robin Lake. The first sight of the lake from the lobby is the moment the weekend actually starts.
  • 5 p.m.  Cocktails at Lake View Bar, feet in the sand, sun heading down.

Evening

  • 6:30 p.m.  Dinner at Cason's Taproom on the patio. Firepits, elevated comfort food, live music on weekends. Order the local thing on the cocktail list.
  • 8:30 p.m.  Lodge firepits. Marshmallows optional.

Day Two. A Real Saturday.

Morning

  • 7:30 a.m.  Sunrise yoga overlooking Robin Lake.
  • 9 a.m.  Breakfast at Country Kitchen for Southern fare and Pine Mountain views. Two coffees, not much hurry.
  • 11 a.m.  Pink Jeep tour (1.5 hours). Open-air ride, guided storytelling, corners of the gardens you'd never find on your own. Photos take themselves.

Afternoon

  • 1 p.m.  Lunch at the Lake View Bar or Beach Pavilion. Sit outside. Keep it light because the spa is later.
  • 2:30 p.m.  Couples massage at the Spa at Callaway. The Evening is Calling session is the play. A longer treatment with a quiet room before and after. Plan for two hours total, plus a sit in the salt room afterward.
  • 5 p.m.  Wander the Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl and the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel. Golden hour photos at the chapel.

Evening

  • 7 p.m.  Dinner at Piedmont Dining Room. Seasonal Southern menu, white tablecloth without feeling stiff. Order the bottle.
  • 9 p.m.  Walk to the beach. The Sunset Dance Party happens every night at Robin Lake Beach next to the Lake View Bar. Stay for a song, then a nightcap on the deck, then the slow Callaway Cruiser drive back.

Day Three. One More Morning.

Morning

  • 8:30 a.m.  Slower start. Coffee and pastry from Azalea Market, Sit outside. The Sunday-morning quiet on the patio is one of the under-marketed pleasures of this property.
  • 10 a.m.  Pack up. Check-out is 11 a.m. but the fun continues.

Afternoon

  • 11 a.m.  Tee off on the Mountain View Course (the more challenging of the two) or take a couples kayak on Mountain Creek. Either move works.
  • 1 p.m.  Lunch at Champion's Grille. Craft beer, golfer's grill, casual.
  • 2 p.m.  Hit the road. The weekend will have felt like four days. That's exactly what you wanted.

Where to Stay

The Lodge & Spa is the obvious move for couples. On-property dining, spa downstairs, lake views from most rooms, walkable to everything. The AAA Diamond recognition means the room itself is part of the experience.

Cottages are quieter and more private. Better if you want to disappear, or you're traveling around an anniversary you don't want sharing the dining room. Bring groceries, cook in, sit on your own porch.

Villas work for couples bringing family or friends along. Multi-bedroom, kitchen, porch.

Where to Eat

View all dining

  • Piedmont Dining Room for seasonal Southern, white-tablecloth dinner. The splurge. The anniversary dinner.
  • Cason's Taproom for patio dinner with firepits and live music on weekends, or a long drinks-only night.
  • Country Kitchen for breakfast. Southern, Pine Mountain views, casual. The slow Saturday morning.
  • Azalea Market for coffee, pastry, Starbucks. The quiet morning starter.
  • Champion's Grille for a golfer's grill and casual lunch on or near the courses.
  • Lake View Bar for sunset cocktails at the beach. The pre-dinner stop.

The Package to Book

Book the Summer to Remember package. Save up to 15 percent on accommodations, get a $150 food and beverage credit (which covers a great dinner at Piedmont Dining Room with a glass of something nice), and two Explorer Passes for the day-of activities you want to add on.

The smartest pairing for couples is to stack Summer to Remember with the Summer Spa Special on a Monday. Two discounts, one trip. The spa session comes in at roughly half the price. Book the spa first and build the rest of the weekend around it.

For 2026, layer on the All American 250th Anniversary Celebration Package if you're celebrating a milestone of your own. The right pick for couples making it an anniversary or birthday weekend during America's milestone year.

Summer Events to Plan Around

For couples, the events that anchor a weekend:

  • Live music every Friday and Saturday at Cason's Taproom, the Summer Spa Special at 20 percent off all services on Mondays through August 27,
  • Wild Air: A Live Action Spectacular May 29 to July 28 (Wed–Thu 3 & 5 p.m., Fri 4 & 6 p.m., Sat 2 / 4 / 6 p.m., Sun 1 / 3 / 5 p.m.; no shows Mon, Tue, or June 28 to July 4), which is genuinely fun even if you're not parents.
  • The nightly Sunset Dance Party at Robin Lake Beach next to the Lake View Bar is the after-dinner move (Wed–Thu and Sun 6:30 p.m., Fri–Sat 7:30 p.m.; no dance party Mon or Tue).
  • Time a milestone trip around a holiday weekend: 4th of July Weekend with three nights of fireworks over the lake (the most romantic fireworks setting you'll find), and the new Labor Day Yacht Rock Weekend to send off the summer.
